11th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology (CAHMV)
27 - 28 November 2025

CAHMV 2025 review – Professional excellence and inspiring exchange

On 27-28 November 2025, the 11th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology (CAHMV) took place. The conference, organised by DR. BRILL INSTITUTES, once again impressed participants on site at the maritime AMERON Hamburg Hotel Speicherstadt and online on their screens with a wide range of specialist presentations and other highlights.

Workshop premiere with extraordinary insights: For the first time since 2019, CAHMV kicked off with a practice-oriented workshop on the topic of “Efficacy testing of antimicrobial products.” Exclusive video insights into our test laboratories in Hamburg and Bremen, as well as the explanations by Dr. Andreas Kampe and Dr. Dajana Paulmann, ensured a lively and informative start.

High-caliber keynotes: Professor Dr. Martin Exner explained the crucial importance of water quality for infection prevention and control in healthcare. Professor Dr. Andreas Voss spoke about current developments influencing infection prevention: from AI to environmental protection. On the second day of the conference, Dr. Florian H. H. Brill gave a comprehensive overview of the status and future development of efficacy testing of antimicrobial products.

Diverse specialist sessions and active exchange: Sessions led by Professor Eike Steinmann and Professor Jörg Steinmann offered further exciting insights into topics such as (re-)emerging viruses, AI-supported sequencing, and genome profiling. The session led by Dr. Gunnar Kleist focused on regulatory developments, while the presentations in the session led by Professor Dirk Bockmühl addressed topics related to household hygiene.

The panel discussion identified the following three areas for improvement for the REFIT of the BPR: 1.) We must emphasize much more strongly than before the indispensable importance of the application of biocidal products, e.g., for infection prevention, food, medical device, and drug production, as well as the sustainable use of materials. 2.) We need a risk-benefit assessment for the evaluation of biocidal products, not just a risk assessment as has been the case to date. 3.) We need an innovation booster for sustainable active substances and biocidal products. To achieve this, the process must become faster and more agile.

The active participation of the attendees and the excellent networking in the breaks and during the pre-Christmas evening program rounded off the conference perfectly. We would like to thank all speakers and participants for their commitment, which once again made this event an outstanding success. CAHMV 2025 reaffirms its position as a high-caliber platform for professional exchange in the field of applied hygiene, microbiology, and virology. We look forward to the next CAHMV conference!

10th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology (CAHMV)
28 - 29 November 2024

Big anniversary a great success - These were some of the highlights:

On 28 and 29 November 2024, Dr. Florian H. H. Brill and Alexander Brux welcomed over 100 international guests to the 10th anniversary of the Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology in Hamburg. The conference was organized for the first time in cooperation with our partner BioGenius, who celebrated their 20th company anniversary at the same time.

The following highlights stood out in a rich scientific program:

  • The panel discussion “25 years of biodical regulation”, which was held for the first time
  • The interesting perspective of hospital management on infection prevention from our key note speaker Professor Dr. Ojan Assadian
  • The session “Hot topics infection prevention & control” with the talk of Dr. Toni Meister on (re-)emerging viruses
  • The wonderful keynote lecture from Professor Dr. Rasmus Leistner on the successful integration of probiotic-based cleaners in a hospital environment
  • The traditional Keynote lecture on day 2 from Dr. Florian H. H. Brill on developments in the field of efficacy testing of antimicrobial products
  • The two sessions on the hot topics of resistance development through biocides and efficacy testing in biofilms were held in parallel and did not make it easy for participants to decide which session to attend. The presentation on the development and testing of resistance by Professor Dr. Laurent Piorel was just as much a highlight as the presentation of the new COST action “Regulatory Tool Box” (LINK) on biofilm methods by Dr. Paulina Rakowska.

We received very positive feedback from the participants. They liked the scientific content, but also the opportunity to network, e.g. during the harbor tour on Thursday evening. We are therefore already looking forward to the next, then 11th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology, which will take place on 27 and 28 November 2025, again in Hamburg. Please save the date in your calendar now.

9th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology (CAHMV)
30 November - 1 December 2023

The 9th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology last November was once again a great success, and again attracted international attention. Almost 100 people from 16 countries took part - some online, but the majority in person on site. Both days were characterized by lively exchanges and discussions on the presentations and intensive networking during the breaks. Of course, the keynote lectures by Leslie Rachel, MSc, USA, Professor Dr. Kurt-Wilhelm Stahl, Freiburg and Dr. Florian H. H. Brill attracted particular attention. Another highlight was the first-time cooperation with our partner BioGenius, who contributed a highly interesting session on the topic of regulatory. The event was rounded off with a visit to a wonderful winter Christmas market and a cheerful dinner on the Alster.

Save the Date: Celebrate with us this year's big anniversary CAHMV, the 10th edition of our conference! On November 28 + 29, 2024 we welcome you again together with BioGenius at the AMERON Hamburg Hotel Speicherstadt for the 10th CAHMV 2024, as well as for a maritime evening program. We would of course be delighted to welcome you. If you would like to make a non-binding reservation now, simply send an e-mail to claudia.steinfath@brillhygiene.com.

8th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology (CAHMV)
24 - 25 November 2022

The 8th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology finally took place at the end of November, once again attracting an international audience of experts from 15 countries to the AMRERON Hotel Hamburg Speicherstadt and online participants in front of their screens.

The lecture topics were again of great interest this year and in some cases stimulated an intensive exchange, with numerous questions also being asked online - and the supporting program in the evening was also very well received.

Once again, a big thank you to all participants and speakers for making CAHMV 2022 such a success, and especially to our sponsors GOJO, Dr. Weigert and BioGenius.

The 9th Conference of Applied Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology is planned for November 30 - December 1, 2023, as usual as a hybrid event online and in Hamburg's Speicherstadt. Please make a note of this date. We look forward to seeing you again, perhaps with a mulled wine together in the evening?
